This project aimed to boost a client’s energy resilience in Kyalami Estate by mitigating the effects of load shedding. Our solution involved a meticulously designed solar power system with battery storage, allowing the client to partially disconnect from the grid and achieve a degree of energy independence.
At the heart of the system lies an 8kW Sunsynk inverter. This powerful unit efficiently converts the sun’s energy into usable electricity for the household. Paired with a robust 10kWh lithium-ion Sunsynk battery, the system provides a seamless transition during power outages.
Here’s how it works: during sunshine hours, the solar panels generate electricity. The inverter converts this DC power into AC power, readily usable by the household appliances. Excess energy is then directed towards charging the lithium-ion battery, creating a reserve for later use.
The beauty of this setup lies in its ability to provide uninterrupted power throughout the day. With the sun shining, the home runs entirely on solar energy, minimizing reliance on the grid. This not only translates to cost savings but also reduces the homeowner’s environmental footprint.
Furthermore, the 10kWh battery capacity ensures extended power availability during Eskom load shedding. The system can provide power to the entire house for 7-8 hours at night, keeping essential appliances and lights functioning. This significantly improves the homeowner’s comfort and peace of mind during power outages.
